WORDS TO LIVE BY ON VALENTINE'S DAY
John Wesley's favorite Bible verse is a good one for Valentine's Day . . . "The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself in love." (Galatians 5:6) We can appreciate Wesley’s take on faith and love in the words of the Apostle Paul to the Ephesians (3:18), “And I pray that you being rooted and established in love, may have power together with all the saints, to grasp how long, and wide, and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge.” To know love that surpasses knowledge is to know with one’s heart. When faith in Christ knows in one’s heart the magnitude (how high, wide, long, and deep) of God's love, our only response must be obedience to love the Lord with everything we have and in his likeness express his pure and holy love to others that he passes on to us. To do this is to fill Valentine's day with God's grace.
